technology partnerships office


the technology partnerships office (tpo) is responsible for all aspects of intellectual property management for the university, such as non-disclosure agreements, patents, trademarks and copyrights extending from university inventions and discoveries. in addition, the office coordinates activities for commercializing inventions with the help of the public and business markets through licensing.

the technology partnerships office provides service and support to university researchers. several of the office functions include:

  • developing appropriate research agreements with industry
  • protecting the university's intellectual property rights
  • compliance with intellectual property requirements in government and industrial contracts
  • working with inventors to obtain patents on university inventions
  • licensing university technology to outside companies by acting as the contact point for negotiations

the university's intellectual property policy and procedures document explains in more detail all matters related to intellectual property. 

the commercialization of technology requires the commitment of both university inventors and administration. the inventor is the expert of his or her technology, and commercial partners often require access to this expertise through sponsored research and/or consulting agreements. the technology partnerships office is here to help you protect your research work.
